2013 Community Survey Results

Hello Clair Hills,

In September we asked for your feedback in our Community Survey. We’re happy to share the summarized results of that feedback with you and let you know how committed we are to responding to your concerns and ideas.

This year’s survey garnered 84 responses online and 3 paper submissions, which as far as surveys go, is pretty darn good. We were pleased to award the Eithier Family – a new addition to our neighbourhood –  with a Starbucks gift card for their participation … and yes, even though participation in the survey was anonymous, they said it was okay to publish their name. 🙂

For those of you who are eager to see the results, click here. For those of you who want to know how we design our surveys and use the information, read on!

Put simply, our surveys are designed to:

  • Identify demographic trends
  • Identify preferred communication methods
  • Identify overall sense of community
  • Identify areas of concern for residents

When we have demographic information about our neighbourhood, we can cater our events and services appropriately. When we have your preferred communication methods, we can share information and news through the channels that you use most, ensuring you get the message. When we have your general opinion on the community atmosphere, we can work to improve things like safety, cleanliness and pride. When you tell us your pain points and pet peeves, we listen to them and discuss them with our board, volunteers and city officials.

We heard loud and clear from our residents through September’s survey that they love Clair Hills because it has friendly neighbours, a great school, is close to retail amenities and has some great green space. We also heard that traffic calming measures are needed, more routine by-law enforcement, more events and events targeted at different age groups including teenagers and adults and the much anticipated completion of parks and trails, plus better amenities in the St. Moritz Park.

So, what are we doing about your concerns? We’re hosting more events starting with a Festive Holiday event in December. We’re planning age-specific events, and have reserved the month of March to host an adult event. We are discussing the St. Moritz Park development with the City of Waterloo in the weeks ahead and will provide an official update during the week of November 25th. We have already raised the traffic and by-law issues with the City of Waterloo and will continue to share community feedback with our City Councillor and the City on those topics.

We also heard from our coffee drinking neighbours that a Tim Horton’s would be nice. We know it’s always time for Tims and while we can’t necessarily build you a coffee shop, we’ll certainly continue to provide free coffee at our events and would like to thank the good people at our local Starbucks for always providing that coffee free of charge to us!

If you didn’t get a chance to provide your feedback in September, you still can. Use the contact form below to share your thoughts or ask any questions.
