Clair Hills Winter Classic Recap and Photo Gallery
This year’s first annual Clair Hills Winter Classic was a huge success thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and participation from our neighbours and local supporters. A very special thank you to Craig Smith, our Social Media Director and Ice Rink Convenor, who coordinated the event. This year’s Winter Classic was funded in part by the City of Waterloo’s Neighbourhood Matching Fund.
The Winter Classic held on February 21, 2015, included a 3 on 3 hockey tournament, which saw team “Top Shelf” take home the championship trophy. A special thank you to Luke Stuart who helped coordinate the tournament and Peter Hughes who officiated.
In addition, the free event included maple taffy from St. Jacob’s Horsedrawn Tours. The CHCA provided a free pizza party, and a special thank you to local Panago Pizza store for their support. A big thank you to Teresa Martin, Lisa Stuart, Jerry Walker, and Adam Shortt who helped coordinate the lunch and ensured everyone had lots of pizza and drinks! Additional thanks are owed to our dedicated volunteers Rob Wallace and Scott Dougall for their commitment to maintaining the ice rink and supporting the event with set-up, prizing and tear down. We’d also like to thank volunteers Joe Radman (Web Coordinator) and Mike Dwyer (Rink Volunteer) for their on-site support, and Shelley Reed for coordinating the pucks.
We also officially opened the St. Moritz Park multi-surface court with a special ribbon cutting ceremony. Joining us were local MP Peter Braid, City of Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky and Ward 2 City Councillor, Brian Bourke. Their kind words helped recognize the great deal of time and energy that has gone in to developing the multi-surface court. The CHCA would also like to recognize past Ward 2 City Councillor Karen Scian, as well as City of Waterloo staff members Karen Anderson and Rob Killins and his team, for their partnership with the CHCA and commitment to bringing the park to our neighbours. Last but certainly not least, we would like to thank to the City of Waterloo’s Neighbourhoods Community Programming & Outreach Services Coordinator, Kristy Smith, whose regular guidance, support and friendship ensures the CHCA provides the best possible service.
Please take a look at the photo gallery below for all the pictures and fun. Next year’s Winter Classic will take place on Saturday February 20, 2016.
A very special thank you to all our additional sponsors including: Christie Digital, City of Waterloo, Culligan, Home Hardware, Innocente Brewing Company, Starbucks at Erb/Ira Needles, and The Zone Training.
We are really looking forward to next year’s Winter Classic and hanging out in the cold with you all again next year!
Sincerely,
Caitlin Smith
