A big part of Drowning Prevention is to better understand why drownings occur and how to prevent them from happening.
Major Risk Factors contributing to the drowning problem in Ontario are:
- Not wearing a PFD (personal flotation device)
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages

There are many great ways to become more educated and comfortable in around the water. Taking a look within your community to see what types of swimming programs are available is one way.
The City of Waterloo offers a wide range of swimming lessons and pay as you come programs for the community to participate in. Offered throughout the summer will be weekly and daily swimming lessons at both our indoor and outdoor pools. Further information on our summer swim lesson programs can be found on our website. Pool schedules are available for download here.
